Treatment of Invasive Species at Mosquito Lake on Track
CORTLAND, Ohio – An invasive species of aquatic plant known as Hydrilla was discovered last year at Mosquito Lake. The plant is nonnative to the body of water in Trumbull County and is known to be harmful to aquatic ecosystems.
“Aquatic plants tend to fly under the radar until they cause problems, and that’s kind of the situation we’re at here,” says Mark Warman, aquatic invasive species project coordinator for Cleveland Metroparks.
A chemical that targets the Hydrilla is currently being used to mitigate the spread of the plant, which can double each year if not properly treated.
