Tressel, Business Journal Launch ‘It’s All About the Team’ Podcast

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Jim Tressel, former college football coach and the retired president of Youngstown State University, today launched a podcast titled “It’s All About the Team.” The podcast will air weekly on YouTube and wherever podcasts are available.

The first six episodes of “It’s All About the Team” are sponsored by Compco, a Columbiana-based manufacturer of tank heads. The podcast series explores the dynamics of teamwork in various settings, moving the conversation away from individual achievements to the collective efforts of groups working toward a common goal.

“When we created our Institute for Leadership and Teamwork at YSU, it became apparent to me that far more attention is paid to leadership development than to teamwork development,” Tressel says.

“Recently, in discussion with the leadership team at the Youngstown Business Journal, we came up with the idea that we could serve the Mahoning Valley and beyond with an ongoing, comprehensive dialogue about teamwork. It truly has been my experience, as I have studied excellence, that ‘It’s All About the Team.’”

Chuck George, managing partner of Sapientia Ventures, which owns The Business Journal, says “It’s All About the Team” is part of an ongoing effort to change the narrative about the Mahoning Valley.

“Repopulation is a huge initiative for the region. But convincing folks to move here is hard if you only have negative news,” George says.

“Jim and I believe deeply in Youngstown. This podcast is our platform to launch an exceptional national media brand right from the heart of the Mahoning Valley. Hopefully this inspires people that exceptional work can be done here,” he says.

The first guests on “It’s All About the Team” are leadership expert John Maxwell, followed next week by former professional football player AJ Hawk. Both are celebrated for their commitment to the team concept.

Maxwell is renowned globally for his teachings on leadership and teamwork. Hawk brings perspectives from his experiences on high-performing sports and entertainment media teams.

Future guests include Ohio State head football coach Ryan Day, former New England Patriots player Nate Ebner and Michael Peterson, managing partner and president of Global Investigations Cello HR.

“As we begin our goal to add value, we will pick guests that have demonstrated outcomes of group successes, especially ones that I have had the good fortune to know and learn from,” Tressel says.

“As we progress, I am excited to meet and learn about a variety of success stories from many different walks of life such as business, the military, sports teams, nonprofit organizations and more. We hope that the discussions are entertaining and instructive at the same time.”

The series is produced by The Business Journal video department, with most episodes shot on location at guests’ homes and places of work.

“It’s All About the Team” will feature three guest episodes per month and one episode where Tressel will discuss a lesson on teamwork.

“The key to teamwork is, first and foremost, that the individuals involved truly believe that the team, the group, is successful only if every person believes in the importance of every team member,” Tressel says.

Listeners can expect engaging discussions and insights into how teamwork plays a pivotal role in various fields and endeavors.

“We look forward to providing a variety of perspectives and strategies from a large cross-section of people, with the goal of every episode having some great takeaways that our viewers/listeners are then able to apply for the benefit of their team, their family, their business, their organization, their community and greater good of our world,” Tressel says.
