Trumbull Commissioners to Launch ‘Shop Your County’

WARREN, Ohio – The Trumbull County Board of Commissioners is leading a coalition of public and private-sector leaders in a new campaign that urges residents to shop inside county lines.

The coalition will unveil its “Shop Your County” campaign at a press conference tomorrow at the Eastwood Mall in Niles.

Backers of the “Shop Your County” campaign include the Eastwood Mall Complex, WFMJ-TV, the Trumbull County Tourism Bureau, the city of Warren, Trumbull Career and Technical Center, the Greater Warren Opportunity Network, the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber and Cinemanix.

In announcing the press event, commissioners said the campaign will help support the tax base and the public services that the county’s sales taxes fund.

Shoppers in Trumbull County pay a 6.75% sales tax, which includes the state’s 5.75% sales tax. Thus sales tax revenue actually going to Trumbull County is 1% on eligible purchases. Last year the county raised $24.4 million from its share of the sales tax, a 3% increase from the previous year.

However, commissioners says most counties in Ohio saw their tax revenues increase by more than 6%, meaning Trumbull is lagging behind the rest of the state.
