Trumbull Partnership Reports 3Q Initiatives
WARREN, Ohio – As the Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership nears its fifth anniversary, it continues to expand its programs and introduce new methods of dealing with blight in Warren.
The nonprofit provided an update of those efforts its third-quarter report released Thursday.
During the period, TNP began to work with the Trumbull Career and Technical Center adult building maintenance and construction trades program. Students helped the Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership rehabilitate houses owned by the Trumbull County Land Bank and earned certifications from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and NCCER, formerly the National Center for Construction Education and Research.
Once the students have finished work on a house, the career center sells it and the new owners must live in at least three years.
TNP also began work on its “Building a Better Warren” program after receiving funding through a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Challenge Grant. Residents and small community groups beautify blocks throughout the city. Among the first projects were painting fences, repairing basketball courts and building stonewalls with flowerbeds.
Through TNP, 11 houses were sold in the third quarter, two as private demolitions and nine as deed in escrow sales. In the latter group, the Trumbull County Land Bank holds deed to the property until the buyer’s rehabilitation plan is finished.
“These sales have helped stabilize neighborhoods and increase market values throughout the county,” the group said in a statement.
In October, the last weekly farmers market of the year was held on Courthouse Square; 13 vendors participated throughout the summer. One of the new features of the market was the Double Your Dollars SNAP and EBT incentive. Nearly $3,750 was spent through the program this summer.
The court-ordered community service program oversaw the completion of nearly 1,540 hours of work that included moving lawns on 250 lots the land bank owns, boarding windows and inspecting houses.
