Trumbull United Way Gears Up for Great Pumpkin Race
WARREN, Ohio — United Way of Trumbull County will hold the 5th Annual Great Pumpkin 5K run/walk at Kent State University Trumbull Campus on Oct. 31. This year’s race will feature several changes from past years and the addition of an indoor Trick-or-Treat event.
Previously an evening race, this year’s 5K will start at 9 a.m. outside the Technology Building, organizers said. Race-day registration and packet pickup will be held from 8:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Immediately following the end of the 5K, there will be a free 50-yard dash for children ages 12 and under.
From 10 a.m. to noon, an indoor Trick-or-Treat event, which is free and open to the public, will take place inside the Technology Building. Some 20 area businesses will have tables set up and will pass out candy and other giveaway items to kids. Also during this time, Trumbull Family Fitness and volunteers will present health and wellness activities for kids of all ages, a bounce-around will be set up indoors or outdoors depending on weather, and there will be face painting.
Local mascots Scrappy from the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, Bradley the Frog from Extreme Air Trampoline Park and Great Clips’ shampoo bottle will make appearances as well. Radio station Hot 101.1 FM will broadcast live from the campus and do giveaways throughout the morning.
Timing and logistics will be provided by Ted Rupe of Gopher Running. Sponsors include the Cafaro Foundation, Paige & Byrnes Insurance Agency, Western Reserve Building Trades, Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority, the law firm of Harrington, Hoppe, & Mitchell, Molina Healthcare and Kent State University Trumbull Campus.
Pre-registration cost for the 5K walk/run is $20; day-of registration is $25, and the first 150 to register are guaranteed a free T-shirt. To register, visit this website and download a registration form or register online.
