Utica Rig Count Stands at 25
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The number of active oil and gas rigs operating in eastern Ohio’s Utica shale as measured by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources stood at 25 for the week ended July 8, the agency reported.
The previous week, the Utica boasted 23 rigs operating in the Utica, ODNR reported.
ODNR issued just two new horizontal permits during the week ended July 8. Both permits were issued to Gulfport Energy Corp. for wells in Belmont County in Somerset Township.
As of July 8, there were 2,544 horizontal well permits issued to energy companies across the Utica. Of that number, 2,040 wells are drilled and 1,587 wells are in production.
There were no new permits issued for the northern tier of the Utica, which includes Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in Ohio. Nor were there new permits issued in the neighboring Lawrence and Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
