Utica Shale Academy Celebrates Outdoor Welding Lab

SALINEVILLE, Ohio – The Utica Shale Academy celebrated its brand-new outdoor welding lab, where students will receive training for jobs in the industry that may involve working in inclement weather.

The lab has 10 welding booths on each side of the building for students to work on various types of welds.

“Initially, we had an issue where kids were only welding inside, and when they would go get jobs, they were flabbergasted to find the fact that they had to weld in the hot or the cold,” says William Watson, superintendent of the Utica Shale Academy. “Sometimes in Ohio, the temperature changes, so we were really just trying to get them ready for the careers that they feel they want.”
