Valley Auto Sales Decline 2.6% in May

Mahoning Valley Auto Sales Down 1.5% in July

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Auto sales in the Mahoning Valley continued to slip in July as dealerships in the area sold 4,913 new and used vehicles, according to data from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association, a 1.5% drop from a year ago.

The drop in sales marked the seventh consecutive month year-over-year sales have fallen in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties. For the association’s 22-county area, combined new and used sales were up 3%.

New-car sales in the tri-county area were down 5.1% from July 2017, totaling 2,740. Leading local sales was Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, with 203 new cars sold last month. Following were Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, with 151; Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown; 141; Boardman Subaru, Boardman, 124; and Fred Martin Ford, Austintown, 121.

Used-car sales  in the area were up just shy of 3%, totaling 2,111 in July. Greenwood topped the used-car sales chart with 106 delivered to customers, down from 117 a year ago.

For the entire membership of the auto dealers’ association, Sweeney Chevrolet ranked No. 4 for combined new and used sales with 272, followed by Greenwood Chevy at No. 5 with 254 and Sweeney Buick GMC in sixth with 247.
