Valley Auto Sales Jump 15.9% in September
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Car sales in the Mahoning Valley are well ahead of national trends, rising 15.9% in September, according to data from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association, as 5,006 new and used vehicles moved off dealership lots.
Nationally, both Ford Motor Co. reported a 5% dip in sales in the third quarter, while Fiat Chrysler Automobiles was essentially even with 2018’s third-quarter performance and General Motors Co. was up 6.3%.
New-car sales in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties rose 15.8% to 2,881 in September. Topping the chart was Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, with 165 sold, up 35 from a year ago. Following were Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, with 161, down 2; Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, with 154, up 45; Boardman Subaru, Boardman, with 142, up 18; and Fred Martin Ford, Austintown, with 118, up 17.
Used-car sales posted a more modest gain, coming in a 2,049 for the month, up 13.4% from September 2018. Fred Martin Ford led sales with 100, the only dealership to hit triple digits.
Across the dealership association’s 22-county membership area, combined sales were up 18.9% to 7,642. Four local dealerships ranked in the top 10: Greenwood Chevy at No. 5, Sweeney Chevy at No. 6, Fred Martin Ford at No. 8 and Sweeney Buick GMC at No. 9.
