Mahoning Valley Auto Sales Nearly Double in May
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio –Local auto sales improved by nearly double month-over-month in May, but are still far below sales from the same time a year ago.
In its monthly sales release, the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association reported new- and used-vehicle sales to residents in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties totaled 4,043 in May, up from 2,296 in April. However, last month’s total is down nearly 1,000 units from 5,034 sold in May 2019.
Year-to-date, sales are at 19,686, down from 24,321 the same time a year ago.
New vehicle sales increased to 2,120 from 1,180 in April. Boardman Subaru, Fred Martin Ford, Austintown, and Fairway Ford, Canfield, made up the top three spots in May, selling 164, 124 and 107 vehicles, respectively. Each increased their new vehicle sales over the same time in 2019.
Rounding out the top five were Toyota of Boardman with 92, down four sales from a year ago, and Taylor Kia of Boardman with 91 sold, down 28 from May 2019.
Other dealerships in the top 20 posting year-over-year gains were The Honda Store (71 sold, up four), Boardman Nissan (71 sold, up 15), Preston Auto Co. (65 sold, up 14), Columbiana Chrysler Jeep Dodge (60 sold, up two), Donnell Auto Group (58 sold, up 21) and Mark Thomas Ford (46 sold, up 20).
Used vehicle sales in May also improved over April to 1,836 sold, which is still down 271 sales from May 2019. Year-to-date, 8,921 used vehicles were sold, down from 10,446 from the same period a year ago.
Taylor Kia of Boardman topped the list with 102 used vehicles sold, down from 117 sold in May 2019.
