Valley Auto Sales Start 2019 Up 6%
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Auto sales in the Mahoning Valley started 2019 on the pedal as new- and used-car sales were up 6% in January, according to the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association’s monthly report.
In Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, 4,770 new and used vehicles were sold, up 271 from January 2018. New-car sales were up 9.5% as 2,859 cars were sold, while used-car sales saw a more modest 1.7% gain with 1,861 vehicles sold.
For new-car sales, Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, was the only dealership in the three-county area to surpass the 200-car mark with 240 new vehicles sold in January. Following were Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, with 194; Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, with 187; Stadium GM, Salem, with 139; and Boardman Subaru, Boardman, with 132.
Leading the sales chart on the used-car side was Greenwood with 105 sold, followed by Fairway Ford, Canfield, with 84 and Fred Martin Ford, Austintown, with 79.
Among the dealership association’s 22-county area, Valley stores took half of the spots in the top 10. Sweeney Chevrolet ranked No. 3 for combined sales, while Greenwood was fourth, Sweeney Buick GMC eighth, Fairway Ford ninth and Fred Martin Ford 10th.
The monthly sales reports from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association are tallied from title transfers in Ohio. For local figures, the association counts the number of transfers with an address in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties.
