Valley Car Sales Rise for Second Straight Month
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – For the second straight month, car dealers in the Mahoning Valley saw a year-over-year increase in sales, according to Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association, as 4,459 vehicles were sold in November, a 3.1% gain.
New-car sales in the area rose 3.9% to 2,475 delivered to customers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, while used-car sales were up 1.8% to 1,923.
Leading the new-car sales chart locally in November was Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, with 173 sold, down 12 from the same month in 2017. Following were Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, with 164 sold, up 36 from November 2017; Stadium GM, Salem, with 137 sold, even with last year; Taylor Kia, Boardman, 116, three fewer than a year ago; and Sweeney Buick GMC, 114 sold, down 12.
Greenwood topped the list for used-car sales, closing on 265 in November, 49 more than last year. The only other dealership to cross the 200-sold threshold was Sweeney Chevy, which sold 235, eight more than a year ago.
Going into the final month of the year, year-to-date sales are lagging behind 2017’s figures as dealerships in the Mahoning Valley posted eight consecutive months of year-over-year losses. Through Nov. 30, 51,122 new and used cars have been sold in the three counties, down 2.9% from the same period a year prior.
