Valley Car Sales Rise, Bolstered by Used Cars
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Auto sales in the Mahoning Valley were up slightly in November as 4,374 new and used cars were sold, according to data from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association. That represents a 3.2% increase from a year ago.
New-car sales in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties fell 2.2% to 2,416, the first time this year that sales fell for the category. Sales of used cars, meanwhile, rose 11.2% to an even 1,900.
“Demand continues to be steady and the northern Ohio dealers are poised to end the year on a positive note,” said Louis A. Vitantonio, president of the association, in a release. “We anticipate a slight overall decline in 2018, however the sales rate next year will continue to be healthy.”
Among the Mahoning Valley dealerships, Sweeney Chevrolet in Boardman was No. 1 with 185 new cars sold. Following in second was Stadium GM, Salem, with 138. Rounding out the top five in November were Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, with 128; Boardman Subaru, Boardman, 126; and Taylor Kia, Boardman, 124.
For used-car sales, Taylor Kia was the local leader with 100 delivered to customers. It was the only dealership to hit triple digits.
Across the association’s 240-plus members in 21 counties, Stadium GM and Sweeney ranked Nos. 3 and 4 for total sales, while Taylor Kia, Greenwood and Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, placed fifth, eighth and 10th, respectively.
