Valley Car Sales Slip 12.2% in June

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Car sales in the Mahoning Valley were down 12.2% last month as 4,611 new and used vehicles were sold, according to the monthly sales data from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association.

According to the association, 2,632 new cars were sold in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in June, 342 fewer than last year. Meanwhile, used-car sales totaled 1,913, down 307 from a year ago.

Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, led new-car sales in the area with 243 delivered to customers, up from 199 in June 2017. Following were Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, with 171, down from 193; Boardman Subaru, Boardman, 156, up from 104; Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, 141, six more than last year; and Fred Martin Ford, Austintown, with 106, even with a year ago.

Greenwood topped the list for sales of used cars with 117 sold. It was the only dealership to break triple digits in the category.

Among the association’s 22-county membership range, two dealerships – Sweeney Chevy and Greenwood – ranked in the top five for combined new and used sales.
