Valley Car Sales Slip 5.1% in March
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Car sales in the Mahoning Valley were down 5.1% in March, the first year-over-year drop of 2019. In all, 5,027 new and used cars were sold in the area, according to the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association.
New-car sales totaled 2,723, a 4.1% dip from March 2018, while sales of used cars came in at 2,233, down 6.1%. For local auto sales, the association uses sales to residents of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
Lead new-car sales in the area was Sweeney Chevrolet of Boardman, which delivered 216 vehicles, up from March 2018’s 193. Following were Boardman Subaru, Boardman, with 161, an increase of 31; Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, 160, even with March 2018; Stadium GM, Salem, with 136, one fewer than last year; and Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, with 126, down 37 from a year ago.
Topping the used-car sales chart was Greenwood Chevy, where 128 were sold.
Across the 22-county region represented by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association, two Mahoning Valley dealerships ranked in the top 10 for combined sales: Greenwood Chevy in seventh with 299 sold and Sweeney Chevy in eighth with 289 sold.
