Valley Dealerships See Sales Increases in August

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Across the Mahoning Valley, dealerships sold 6,482 new and used vehicles in August, a 3.7% increase over August 2014, the Automobile Dealers Association of Easter Ohio reported Thursday.

The increase is also a reversal of the slide in July, when total sales dropped 7.2%.

The climb follows a nationwide trend of rising car sales. Last month, sales of domestic automotive brands climbed 3.1% as Ford Motor Company and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles reported sales gains of 5.4% and 2% respectively. General Motors Co. dipped 0.7% compared to August 2014.

In Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, sales of new cars, trucks and SUVs were up 9.8%, finishing well ahead of the national results.

Leading new car sales in the Valley was Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, with 202 vehicles sold, an increase of 36 over August 2014. Rounding out the top five are Taylor Kia, Boardman, with 174; Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, 170; Stadium GM, Salem, 141; and Boardman Subaru, Boardman, 117.

The top-selling vehicle in the three counties once again is the Chevy Equinox, which has held its spot as the Mahoning Valley’s No. 1 new car since January.

Chevrolet holds four of the top five spots for new car sales in the area, with the Silverado 1500, Cruze and Malibu ranking second, third and fifth.

Those models sold 163, 121 and 96, respectively. The Ford F-150 finished fourth in sales with 102 leaving showrooms in August.

Among used vehicles, the F-150 was the top seller with 108 sold, 33 more than the same month last year.
