Valley School, Districts Receive State Grants for Equipment
COLUMBUS, Ohio – A Mahoning Valley school and two school districts are among those that were awarded Career Technical Education Equipment Grant Program grants Wednesday.
“Investing in our schools and making sure they have updated equipment for training is an investment into our students’ futures,” Gov. Mike DeWine said in a news release announcing the grants. “Providing the opportunity for more schools to purchase equipment so they can train additional students will set them – and our state – up for success.”
Brookfield Local Schools received $1,444,402 for engineering, the largest amount received by a Valley school or district.
United Local Schools in Columbiana County received $744,464 for agriculture and construction.
Valley STEM + ME2 Academy in Canfield received $649,018 for advanced manufacturing and engineering.
“We want every high school graduate to be career-ready, and to make that happen, students need to train on the same modern equipment they will have in the workplace,” Lt. Gov. Jon Husted said in the release. “These grants will help the schools invest in that machinery and technology so their students will be ready to go to work when they graduate.”
With the announcement, 6,330 additional students across Ohio will have the opportunity to pursue a career technical education, and 34 schools and districts received awards.
This is the second round of awards of state career technical education equipment grants. The first round awarded 57 grants totaling just under $70 million to expand career technical education access to an additional 10,545 students per year.
