Virtual Event | Brain Gain Navigators: Legal Careers
The Brain Gain Navigators virtual events are designed to provide middle and high school students with a virtual tour of companies and career paths in the Mahoning Valley, as well as an opportunity to speak with employers and professionals.
During this virtual career exploration event held March 8, 2021, Youngstown Municipal Court Judge Carla Baldwin shares her experiences as a prosecutor as well as a judge, and answers questions posed by the students who attended. For anyone considering a career in law, she said it’s a great way to help people and doesn’t always have to be defined by the criminal cases she hears regularly.
“There are attorneys for just about everything,” Baldwin said. “If you want to help start a business, learn how to write good contracts so that both the business owner and the contractor are protected.”
Questions ranged from the type of education needed for jobs in the legal profession to what makes the career challenging and rewarding.
The Business Journal will conduct feedback sessions with students from the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley’s Young Women’s Mentorship program, as well as Inspiring Minds in Warren. Look for that story in the April 2021 edition of The Business Journal.
The event is the second Brain Gain Navigators tour hosted by The Business Journal in partnership with Junior Achievement of Mahoning Valley and the Mahoning County Educational Service Center.
