VisitMercerCounty Reports Record Year

SHARON, Pa. – Although 2023 was marked by inflation that slowed consumer spending, it was a banner year for tourism.

“Our industry was resilient and resourceful, and travelers were ready to get on the road,” says Peggy Mazyck, CEO of VisitMercerCountyPA.

In fact, the travel-tourism marketing agency reports record numbers. Hotel excise tax receipts increased by over 14%.

“Hotel bookings for weddings, reunions, sports travel and fun experiences soared,” Mazyck says.

VisitMercerCountyPA last year launched a 30-mile race on the Shenango River, and increased marketing of the Wine & Brew Trail. It also developed an Underground Railroad Tour.

The Olympic Fun Center in Hermitage hosted the 2023 U.S. Roller Skating Championships, which brought thousands of visitors to the county. It will host the event again this year.
