VLT Play at Racino Shows Year-Over-Year Gain

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Play on video lottery terminals at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course in August was up about $9.5 million from a year earlier, the Ohio Lottery Commission reported Wednesday.

The monthly reports released on the lottery commission’s website showed patrons wagered $85.86 million in credits on VLTs at the Austintown racino last month, compared with $73.99 million in August 2015. Play fell last month from the record $91.07 million in July.

One potential factor in the month-over-month drop-off might be the calendar: July had five weekends, compared with four in August. Statewide, VLT play totaled $828.14 million for August, compared with more than $871.79 million in July and $782.35 million in August 2014.

Winnings at Mahoning Valley totaled $76.42 million, up from more than $65.69 million in August 2015 but down from $81.22 million in July.

Net wins – credits played less credits won and promotional play credits – totaled $8.34 million in August, up from $7.92 million a year earlier but less than $8.29 million in July.

Penn National Gaming inc. of Wyomissing, Pa., which operates the racino, received $5.52 million as its commission for the month, compared with $5.24 million in August 2015 and $5.81 million in July.
