Warren to Get Acquainted with Foxconn at Special Event

WARREN, Ohio – As a way of introducing his city to workers in the Mahoning Valley’s growing EV industry, Mayor Doug Franklin has declared Saturday, May 20, Warren Welcomes Foxconn Day.

“The city of Warren is delighted to have Foxconn as our newest neighbor,” Franklin said. “When your neighbor brings jobs and opportunities to your neighborhood, you want to make sure they are appreciated, and that is what this special day is designed to do.”

Foxconn – ranked No. 20 on the Fortune Global 500 – purchased the former GM plant in Lordstown, where it is building several electric vehicles for other manufacturers.

“With an influx of economic development across our community, many people will be looking for a new place to live,” Franklin said. “They’ll all be looking for places to shop, eat, drink and be entertained.

“While they are looking, we want to be sure they are looking at Warren – the capital of Voltage Valley.”

In addition to the city of Warren, sponsors of Warren Welcomes Foxconn Day include Warren City Schools, Brite Energy Innovators, the Fund for Warren’s Future, Trumbull County Tourism and corporate sponsor AVI Foodsystems.

“We have a great group of sponsors. The goal is to encourage local businesses and nonprofit organizations to provide a special reason for both employees and residents to visit their businesses that day,” said Beth Carmichael, executive director of the Trumbull County Tourism Bureau.

Go to exploretrumbullcounty.com/foxconn for details and to take part in the day.

“We’re collecting the information and will develop a Google map for the day highlighting those sites and their special activity,” Carmichael said.

Warren Welcomes Foxconn Day will begin at the Warren Community Amphitheater at 10 a.m. with a brief ceremony and a performance by the Harding High School band. A coffee mixer in the Brite offices at 125 W. Market St. will follow at 11 a.m., where residents will have the opportunity to talk to Foxconn representatives, and Foxconn employees will have the chance to learn more about Warren-based nonprofit organizations.

In case of inclement weather, the opening ceremony will take place in the Warren G. Harding cafetorium.
