Warren, Youngstown Unemployment Drops, Still Top State
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Warren and Youngstown posted the two highest unemployment rates – 6.5% and 6.1%, respectively – among Ohio cities in December, according to data from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
Warren’s unemployment rate was 7.1% in November and 7.5% in December 2018, while Youngstown posted rates of 6.7% and 7.9% in the same periods.
Trumbull County posted the highest rate in the tri-county region, 5.6%, down from November’s 5.9% and 6.6%. Mahoning County was at 5.2% last month, down from 5.5% in November and 6.3% in December ’18. Meanwhile, Columbiana County posted an unemployment rate of 4.5%, even with November and down from 5.3% the year prior.
Across the Youngstown-Boardman-Warren metropolitan statistical area – which includes Mahoning and Trumbull counties, along with Mercer County, Pa. – the unemployment rate was 5.4%. Statewide, unemployment was at 3.8% in December.
