WaterFire Sharon Sets Themes for Summer Events
SHARON, Pa. – WaterFire Sharon has set the dates and themes for this year’s summer events, the 5th summer hosting the events.
The first WaterFIre takes place July 15 with the theme “Back to Our Roots – Honoring Ancestry”; On Aug. 19 the theme will be “Celebrate America – United We Stand” and the series concludes Sept. 23 with “Broadway and More.”
“We’re fine-tuning the days’ events so that they reflect the themes. Whether in fine or performing arts, the merchandise for sale, the style of dance, and the food vendors,” said Chip Mastrain, co-chairman of WaterFire Sharon.
Last year’s WaterFire Sharon events drew tens of thousands of attendees, creating an economic impact seen by region hotels, restaurants and stores, organizers say.
“We want each WaterFire experience to be different,” said Alane Jewel, artist and WaterFire board member. “When you visit ‘Back to Our Roots,’ we want you to be intrigued enough to come back to participate in the next two events. No two WaterFire’s will ever be exactly the same.”
WaterFire Sharon was introduced in the summer of 2013. Braziers are placed in the Shenango River and fired with cedar and pine. After a daylong arts and music festival, the evening activities commence with a ceremonial lighting of the braziers, which remain burning until midnight. The music festival continues throughout the evening with live entertainment on an indoor stage and several outdoor stages.
