WARREN, Ohio – Following its quarterly board meeting, the Raymond John Wean Foundation has announced $178,000 in grants to five organizations in the Mahoning Valley.
Awards were made to Empowering and Strengthening Ohio’s People, We Are Warren, International Partners in Mission, Invent Now and Youngstown CityScape. The individual grant totals were not announced.
Empowering and Strengthening Ohio’s People’s grant will support its Senior Financial Empowerment Initiative, which provides financial assessments and education, as well as mortgage counseling, to seniors.
The grant to We Are Warren will fund Inspiring Minds students’ participation in a six-week summer program and the implementation of a workforce development program for young adults after they’ve graduated high school.
With its funds, International Partners in Mission will send 20 students from Warren and Youngstown city school districts and Youngstown State University to El Salvador as part of its Pilot Immersion Experience program.
Invent Now is a collaboration the Ohio Youth Entrepreneurship Program and Invention Project. It provides STEM and entrepreneurial education to 50 students in Warren and Youngstown city schools.
Finally, the Wean Foundation made a grant to support Youngstown CityScape’s Sidewalk Squad. The program employs young people to “provide general information and maintain the cleanliness and visual appeal of the city center.”
