Wean Foundation Funds Nonprofit Internships
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Center for Nonprofit Leadership in Youngstown State University’s Williamson College of Business Administration has been awarded an $86,000 grant from the Raymond John Wean Foundation to implement the 2021 Nonprofit Leadership Summer Internship Program.
The program, started in 2011, provides 10 YSU students with full-time (40 hours per week), 12-week summer internships at a nonprofit or public sector organization. The internships run from May 17 through Aug. 6, 2021. Nonprofit and public sector organizations in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties interested in participating should apply by Dec. 11.
“We are excited by the opportunity to once again partner with The Raymond John Wean Foundation to help 10 organizations in the Mahoning Valley build organizational capacity while providing career-related experience to 10 YSU students.” said Laura Dewberry, director of the YSU Center for Nonprofit Leadership.
“The Foundation has partnered with YSU’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership in the development of the Nonprofit Leadership Summer Internship Program since its inception,” said Jennifer Roller, Wean Foundation president. “It’s continued quality and diversity of internship opportunities, along with increased participation of students of color and more recently well-paying opportunities demonstrates the organization’s commitment to equitable access to resources, knowledge and opportunity.”
In all, 54 YSU students have worked 25,920 hours in the internship program in the summers of 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019. Students interested in the program can begin to apply in January 2021. Students with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA in their major are eligible to apply; senior standing is preferred. Students who participate are eligible to earn four (4) hours of academic credit.
