Weekend Entertainment | ‘Back to the Future’ and Rock to Bach
The Youngstown Symphony Orchestra has jumped headfirst into film score concerts, in which it screens a popular movie above the stage while performing the music synchronized to the action.
It has proven to be wildly popular. The YSO will do it again this weekend, with the iconic 1985 film “Back to the Future.” Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Powers Auditorium.
Erik Ochsner, who is the reigning champ of film score concerts, will be the guest conductor. He’s filling in for music director Sergey Bogza. Learn more HERE.
The annual November Rain fireworks show at Eastwood Mall will return Saturday.
The pre-party will start at 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot next to Ollie’s with a performance by local rockers RDNA and Youngstown’s Houseband. The fireworks will start at 9 p.m.
The Youngstown Model Railroad Association’s annual series of open houses will begin this weekend. The club has two room-size layouts at its headquarters at 751 N. Four Mile Run Road, Austintown, including its famous model of downtown Youngstown. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5.
Definitely worth checking out next week is a performance by Take 3 at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Packard Music Hall. The act’s slogan is “where rock meets Bach.” Rather than trying to describe it, check out their sizzle reel and then get tickets at Ticketmaster.com or by calling 330 399 4885.
