Weekend Entertainment | Holiday Hoopla Is Here
Today is Black Friday Eve – or, as some call it, Thanksgiving – and that means the Christmas season has arrived.
Like clockwork, several events that mix merriment with commerce have showed up on the calendar this weekend.
Lanterman’s Mill’s annual Olde Fashioned Christmas at the Mill will take place Saturday and Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The landmark in Mill Creek Park will be decorated in throwback holiday finery, and chestnuts will be roasting on an open fire. The event features artisans, vendors and Santa Claus, too. Admission is free. Go to millcreekmetroparks.org.
In downtown Sharon, Pa., Small Business Saturday will be marked this weekend with a pop-up market in the former Army Navy store building, a tree-lighting ceremony, live music, children’s activities and fireworks. Santa will arrive at 5 p.m.
The ice skating rink at DeBartolo Commons at Southern Park Mall will open for the season at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24. The 35-by-60-foot rink will be open until Jan. 15. The cost to skate is $12 for adults and $10 for children. Guests can bring their own skates or rent them for $4. Go to southernparkmall.com.
Molnar Farms, 3115 E. Western Reserve Road, Poland, will present its annual Christmas on the Farm event from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The event will feature a craft and gift market with more than 30 local vendors selling unique, handmade items. Admission is free.
The annual TubaChristmas concert and craft market will take place Sunday at Stambaugh Auditorium. The market opens at 11 a.m., and the concert starts at 3 p.m.
Music
Friday will be one of the best nights of the year for live local music, featuring some of this area’s longtime favorites. Here’s a look:
Disco Inferno has had a much longer run than the actual disco era, and that’s at least partially because they can put a smile on your face. The act will be at the Robins Theatre in Warren. For tickets, click HERE.
Youngstown’s homegrown funk-jam band Jones for Revival will be at Penguin City Brewing.
Westside Bowl has two stellar shows. Spirit of the Bear will be joined by Cousin Simple and Sedona on the main stage. In the downstairs room, rap-rockers 5 Elements (yes, they’re back) will perform.
And at Cedars West End, Speedo Agreedo will headline a show that also includes Smokey Honey Blues Band and Jack and the Cadavers.
All of the above shows start at 8 p.m.
On Saturday, country music fans need to check out the new Country at the Boot series at Yankee Lake Ballroom in Brookfield, which will feature Shania Twin. Don’t you just love the clever names that tribute bands think up? The show starts at 8 p.m. Click HERE.
