Weekend Entertainment | Let There be Explosions in the Sky

The big bang theory will be put to the test this weekend.

Public fireworks displays (it’s hard to keep these things private) are on the docket all weekend at various locations in the Mahoning Valley.

Here’s a partial overview:

  • Friday and Tuesday: After the Scrappers games at Eastwood Field in Niles.
  • Saturday: Downtown Sharon, Pa.
  • Monday: Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa.
  • Tuesday: The Canfield Fairgrounds, Packard Music Hall grounds in Warren, downtown Youngstown, Pearson Park in New Castle, Pa.

Another highlight this weekend will be Kool & The Gang’s concert at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre on Saturday. The legendary band, founded by Youngstown native Robert “Kool” Bell, has a slew of dance-funk hits, plus some new music on the way.

On Saturday afternoon, Kool and his gang will be honored with the first star on the new Youngstown Walk of Fame. For details, click HERE.

The Harry Stevens Day Festival, named for the Niles native who invented the hot dog, will start at 10 a.m. at Eastwood Field in Niles, with free admission and free parking. Fest-goers can stay for that afternoon’s Scrappers game at 2:05 p.m. and a post-game concert by the Vegas band.

We’ll all be back to work by Wednesday, but alternative rockers Collective Soul (“Shine,” “December,” “The World I Know”) will be in the area that night for a 7 p.m. concert at Packard Music Hall in Warren. Click HERE.
