Weekend Entertainment | Music For a Mid-Summer Night
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Concerts featuring smooth jazz and the music of Jimmy Buffett highlight this mid-summer weekend.
The annual Wine and Jazz Fest at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre on Saturday will feature Althea Rene and Jeff Kashiwa. Tickets for the 7 p.m. show are $10 and $20.
At the Warren Community Amphitheatre, Fins to the Left will reunite for a Jimmy Buffett blowout.
Both concerts are Saturday evening.
Rene, a jazz flautist, became the first female flautist to his the top spot on the billboard charts, when her single “In the Flow” was No. 1 for 10 straight weeks in 2013.
Her most recent album, “Pastel Leather,” was released in 2022.
By the way, the Detroit-born Rene is not just a musician. She has become a champion of women artists who are trying to make it in the business and enjoys sharing her support and wisdom with them.
Kashiwa, a Seattle native, launched his smooth jazz career with The Rippingtons in 1989. He was with the act for a decade, and has twice participated in reunion tours.
Kashiwa’s latest album is “Sunrise,” which was released in 2021.
The Warren amphitheater will be packed Saturday when Fins to the Left, with members of Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band, reunites for a 5:30 p.m. concert. Tickets are $15, and there will be no opening act.
Fins announced their retirement last summer after their show at the Warren venue. But after Buffett’s death late last year, the members decided to get back together.
