Weekend Entertainment | The Christmas Season Will Come Marching Down Federal Street
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The holiday season will begin in earnest Friday when Youngstown’s holiday parade returns after a two-year hiatus caused by the pandemic.
It starts at 6 p.m. on Federal Street, downtown, and will include multiple marching bands, community groups and performers.
The parade is just one part of what will be a lively night that rekindles the big-city charm of the past. Twinkling lights will sparkle in storefronts and trees while families and friends crowd the sidewalks.
From 4 to 8 p.m., a special Youngstown Flea with unique handcrafted gift items by dozens and dozens of vendors will take place on the Phelps Street corridor.
The lighting of the city’s Christmas tree on Central Square will take place after the parade.
The Youngstown Flea will continue on Saturday and Sunday at its regular location at 365 E. Boardman St., downtown.
The parade isn’t the only holiday event this weekend.
Rust Belt Theater Company’s offbeat but – somehow – traditional musical, “How the Drag Queen Stole Christmas,” will return with 8 p.m. performances at Club Switch, 221 Belmont Ave., Friday and Saturday. For tickets, click HERE.

Ballet Western Reserve will present a more traditional tradition when it presents “The Nutcracker,” with live accompaniment by the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Powers Auditorium. Click HERE.
The Butler Institute of American Art’s beautiful An American Holiday art and craft show and sale will take place at the museum from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Click HERE.
The fun will continue on Monday when The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra brings its Christmas favorites and greatest hits concert to Stambaugh Auditorium. Click HERE.
The annual Carols & Cocoa event, which features an utterly grand concert featuring great and sacred music performed by a full orchestra and a mass choir, will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Stambaugh Auditorium. Click HERE.
