Weekly Jobless Claims Fall

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – New jobless claims filed by Ohioans during the week ended September 25 dropped compared to the previous week. At the same time, continued unemployment claims jumped up, according to data released this morning from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Ohioans filed 7,240 new traditional unemployment claims last week, a decrease of 764 claims filed the previous week. 

Continued jobless claims stood at 28,366 for the week, an increase of 843 claims, ODJFS said.

Ohio’s unemployment rate in August was 4% compared to the national unemployment rate of 3.7%. 

Ohio’s labor force participation rate in August was 61.8%, while the national labor force participation rate for the month stood at 62.4%.
