Weekly Jobless Claims Tick Up

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – New jobless claims filed by Ohioans during the week ended August 20 inched up compared to the previous week. At the same time, continued unemployment claims dropped, according to data released this morning from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Ohioans filed 6,310 new traditional unemployment claims last week, an increase of 83 claims filed the previous week. 

Continued jobless claims stood at 31,494 for the week, a decrease of 1,406 claims, ODJFS said.

Ohio’s unemployment rate in July was 3.9% compared to the national unemployment rate of 3.5%. 

Ohio’s labor force participation rate in July was 61.9%, while the national labor force participation rate for the month stood at 62.1%.
