What’s Old Is New Again at Glunt Industries
NILES, Ohio – In 2002, Glunt Industries Inc. sold a 75,000-square-foot facility in here to The Timken Co. of North Canton, and for 13 years that plant served as the operations for its subsidiary, Timken Industrial Services.
On Friday, Glunt Industries announced it was buying the building back, as the Warren-based company puts into motion expansion plans that will enable it to add more employees and grow capacity. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
“We’re looking to grow this facility to between 50 and 75 employees,” says Gary Shells, corporate manager at Glunt.
About 28 employees work at the Timken plant, Shells says, which would bring the total number of employees at the company to about 200.
Glunt Industries, headquartered at 319 N. River Road in Warren, constructs, reconditions, repairs and upgrades all types of steel and aluminum rolling mill equipment, as well as seamless and welded pipe production equipment.
Shells says the Niles plant will serve primarily as a manufacturing and remanufacturing operation for rolls and chocks used in the aluminum and steel industries.
“We’re going to look at mixing some products in here,” he adds. “We acquired it because of the added capacity.”
Overall business at Glunt remains steady – not booming, Shells qualifies – but solid. “With this acquisition, we now have four locations,” he notes.
The expansion opens up even greater opportunities for the long-standing company, says its president and CEO, Dennis Glunt.
“The acquisition of Timken Industrial Services-Niles Plant further advances our strategies to expand our capabilities, and this is a great opportunity to for the growth of our company and the development of our local community,” Glunt says. “With this added turnkey capacity, we will become more efficient and have the ability to take on more projects than ever before.”
