Who Are Your Unsung Heroes? Please Tell Us
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – During the coronavirus pandemic, it’s vital to rally around our small businesses by reporting stories of hope and resilience amid the stories of struggle, hardship and sickness.
Over the last few weeks, The Business Journal has tried to strike that balance by posting stories we label “Stepping Up” at BusinessJournalDaily.com and in our print editions.
Here’s two examples: Brookfall Group, which operates apartment complexes in Warren, Canfield, Girard and Youngstown, is offering to waive late-rent fees for its tenants. For those buying or selling a home, or refinancing a mortgage through Market Title Agency, Burgan Real Estate has partnered with ServPro of East Mahoning County to provide free sanitization services.
Stepping Up stories serve as a reminder that even though residents of Ohio and Pennsylvania have been ordered to stay home except for essential activities, friends and neighbors are getting up every day and going to work any way they can.
As we roll out the “Now More Than Ever! Rally Around Small Business 2020” campaign, sponsored by Home Savings Bank, we’re asking our audience, business leaders and area residents to nominate Unsung Heroes.
Who are the employees who have gone above and beyond to get the job done? What out-of-the-box ideas did individuals on your staff come up with to continue to serve customers? Which business owners have sacrificed to ensure their employees can still earn a paycheck?
And let’s not forget the many Unsung Heroes in our community who are volunteering their time and treasure to meet urgent needs. These are individuals who are taking the initiative – perhaps your neighbor, your cousin or your friend. We want to recognize these people as well.
From now until May 31, submit nominations. All nominees will be recognized in The Business Journal, on BusinessJournalDaily.com and across our entire social media network.
A selection committee will narrow the field to three individuals who will be featured in profiles published in The Business Journal and in a video on BusinessJournalDaily.com. The company, or nonprofit organization they designate, will receive a 90-day multimedia marketing program.
To submit a nomination, go to BusinessJournalDaily.com/rally-around-small-business and click the Nominate Your Unsung Hero button, then fill out the submission form.
“Anyone can nominate an individual. We want to hear why you think your nominee is an Unsung Hero,” says Jeff Leo Herrmann, CEO of The Youngstown Publishing Co.
“We’re shining our spotlight on the Unsung Heroes of the Mahoning and Shenango valleys who have stepped up to excel even during the darkest days of this pandemic,” adds Andrea Wood, publisher of The Business Journal.
Visitors to The Business Journal’s Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages are invited to give Unsung Heroes an extra plug by sharing a picture or shout out to a post pinned to the top of each profile page.
“Be sure to tag the individual or the business and include the address so other customers and readers know where to find them,” Herrmann says.
