Work Underway on Golden String’s Gabba Camp

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Work is currently in full swing on Golden String’s Gabba Camp in Coitsville.

Jimmy Sutman, director of operations at Golden String, says once completed, Gabba Camp will be a full-service camp for adults with disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and traumatic brain injury.

“We’re working on all the infrastructure and getting all of the utilities back there currently,” he says. “The total cost, we’re looking at about $3.5 to $4 million. We’re about half way there so we still have a significant way to go.”

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan visited ISLE World Headquarters in downtown Youngstown Monday morning to discuss the project.

“The need is great in our community,” said Ryan. “I think we all know families who are dealing with some family member who falls into this category and I think this is an opportunity for us to do something really special for this community and give opportunities to these families.”
