YESCO Expands to Pittsburgh with 5th Location

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — YESCO Electrical Supply Inc. has opened its fifth location at 1290 Western Ave. in Pittsburgh, a move that executives say will strengthen its core services and strategy for growth.

Pittsburgh’s growing reputation as a technology hub and a robust rebuilding movement there made it an attractive area to expand, said James DeRosa, general manager.

“It looks like there is a lot of gentrification in the Pittsburgh area,” he said. “The Lawrenceville district went through a massive 180 and now it looks like its picking up.”

Larger projects such as renovation and redesign work planned at the Pittsburgh International Airport present additional opportunities, DeRosa said. “There are other important areas in Pittsburgh under development such as the Strip District where we see a lot of things happening at the moment. We want to be part of that growth.”

YESCO had a solid customer base in the Pittsburgh region, and a new brick and mortar location demonstrates the company’s commitment to these customers as well, DeRosa said. “It opens up trust as an independent supplier, we’re now be able to serve them from a new location there.”

DeRosa said that it’s important that customers here understand that YESCO is still a locally owned, family-operated company. However, internal communications and advanced technologies enable the company to have the impact of a large corporate entity, he said.

“We’re also open on Saturdays,” DeRosa said. “No distributors are open on Saturday.”

The company purchased property in the North Shore area of the city and began renovations in 2018 on buildings there, expanding one of them, the company said.

In 2017, YESCO served as a major supplier of industrial switchgear and LED lighting to multiple sites along the Dakota Access Pipeline. After that complex effort proved successful, the company then opted to explore larger metropolitan areas such as the Pittsburgh region.

The Pittsburgh location is comparable in size to the company’s Austintown site along Meridian Road, he said. “We want to duplicate the success we’ve had in Youngstown in Pittsburgh,” he said.

In 2016, YESCO moved into a renovated 30,000 square-foot building on Meridian Road that once served as a 7-Up distribution center.

YESCO, an independent electrical supplier and wholesale distributor that was established in Youngstown in 1986, today sells its products in a 12-county region in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania, plus national accounts. It serves customers in a variety of markets that include industrial, residential, institutional, commercial, and residential. It also supplies contractors to the security, alarm and computer industries, and its storage facilities have been expanded to accommodate domestic and globally imported products to be inventoried and managed.

The company stocks and resells more than 200,000 products from 400 manufacturers. YESCO maintains more than 100,000 square-feet of location space, serves 40,000 customers and has other locations in Columbiana, and in New Castle and New Brighton, Pa.
