YNDC, Land Bank to Sell Renovated Commercial Building
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Mahoning County Land Bank and Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. are partnering to sell a newly renovated commercial building on the city’s west side.
The building, 984 Bears Den Road, has sat vacant for more than a decade and YNDC acquired it earlier this year before starting renovations. Among the renovations are a new roof, two new furnaces, restored utilities, overhead doors and a staircase leading to storage loft. Other features include two small offices, a bathroom, a heated garage and a fenced backyard.
The building, which previously housed a company that made aluminum construction products and an auto repair shop, is 2,240 square feet, including 1,926 square feet of heated garage space. It is listed at $89,000 and the property is zoned industrial green.
“This is a major step in our partnership with YNDC,” said Debora Flora, the land bank’s executive director, in a statement. “The process is much like our work with residential properties – we’re taking a nonmarketable and abandoned property, finding out what we need to do to bring it back to life and restoring it as a marketable property with a clean title – but in this case, we’re helping to bring employment, too. And we so badly need that here so that excites me all the more.”
The renovation marks the first time the Mahoning County Land Bank and YNDC have partnered on a commercial venture.
“This project reflects the power of the Land Bank and its ability to acquire vacant properties, clean the titles and serve as a vehicle for YNDC to be able to revitalize and bring revitalization,” said Ian Beniston, YNDC’s executive director. “We look forward to continuing to bring jobs to this area.”
