Youngstown CityScape to Host Streetscape Kickoff Event

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown CityScape will kick off Streetscape 2024 at 8 a.m. March 15 at its new offices at 250 E. Federal St.

The event marks the beginning of the fundraising efforts for the annual Streetscape planting day and will include an open house and tour of CityScape’s new offices.

Past and new volunteers are welcome to attend the kickoff event, and CityScape encourages neighborhood groups to start making plans for citywide beautification efforts.

Anyone interested in attending the event must RSVP HERE.

This year’s 27th annual Streetscape planting day is scheduled for June 1. Volunteers are once again invited to help beautify the greater downtown area.

Projects will include trimming, planting flowers and shrubs, removing debris and mulching planted areas. Lunch will be catered by downtown and area restaurants. Focus areas include Central Square, West and East Federal streets, John Young memorial, South Avenue Bridge police memorial, Mahoning Commons, B&O Station, Choffin hillside, City Hall, Williamson staircase, Wick Park, Harrison Common, Smoky Hollow and more.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the planting day can sign up HERE. The first 500 registrants will receive a free T-shirt.

“Our newly constructed downtown infrastructure has created lots of green space to plant,” said Sharon Letson, Youngstown CityScape executive director. “Our Streetscape Committee looks forward to all hands on deck because there’s plenty of planting to do. We think Streetscape 2024 is the perfect way to reconnect the community with the center city, help green up our downtown, gateways and neighborhoods, and start the summer season off right.”
