Youngstown Encourages Support for Local Businesses

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Heading into YO! Day 2023 on Small Business Saturday, the city is inviting community members to help support local small businesses while earning rewards through its YO! mobile app.

The YO! app’s latest initiative, Discover Downtown, aims to help support businesses impacted by ongoing downtown construction. Customers can earn an extra 20% in rewards when supporting downtown businesses.

The YO! app, sponsored by the city and managed by Colu Technologies, is a local reward system that allows users to accumulate and use points called City Bites, with each equivalent to $1. City Bites are earned by users as a reward for shopping at participating local businesses. Users can redeem their City Bites like cash for goods or services at any of the 30 local businesses categorized as “redeeming businesses” on the app.

This week, the app is offering 20% extra rewards back to customers and double redemptions back to businesses. Customers who redeem $20 or more in City Bites on Saturday will receive $5 back in rewards.

“Cities that champion their constituents are looking for innovative ways to support local consumers and businesses. The city of Youngstown is one of those cities,” said Christopher DiGirolomo of Colu. “With the downtown construction posing challenges for many businesses, the city of Youngstown believes it is essential to introduce an offer that would entice residents to rally behind these establishments.”
