Youngstown Goodwill Director to Retire in March
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – After 38 years with the Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries, executive director Michael W. McBride has announced that he will retire Match 1, 2017.
“I have chosen to retire because it is time. I will always love Goodwill, our employees, our staff, our board and the people we provide services to every day, but it is time that I do some things I want to do with my wife and family,” McBride said in a statement. “I am sure that my working days are not over, but they will no longer be every day.”
McBride also said he would retire sooner than next March if a replacement is found. The search committee will use The Yunker Group, Cincinnati, to find candidates.
After graduating from Youngstown State University with a baccalaureate in business administration, McBride joined Goodwill in 1978 as finance director and became executive director in 1982. Over the years, he has increased the budget to $6 million from $1.8 million, increased employee wages to $3 million from $1.2 million and established an endowment to help meet operational and capital needs.
“It has truly been my pleasure to be employed by Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries for over 38 years,” McBride said. “We have been able to help thousands of people. The success of the organization would not be possible without the staff and our employees. We have always had a very supportive board and energetic volunteers. Our community has been very generous in helping us to meet our mission. I’m thankful that I was able to be a small part of the success of the organization.”
