Youngstown Libraries to Evaluate Remaining Open
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County will remain open through Tuesday as other library systems in Ohio are shutting their doors because of the coronavirus outbreak.
Ohio library systems in Cleveland, Columbus and Toledo have announced plans to close this weekend.
“As we continue to monitor the situation, we acknowledge that other libraries in the state are closing,” said library Executive Director Aimee Fifarek in a statement. “At this time, we are choosing to keep the library system open at least until end of business Tuesday, March 17, to facilitate school wind-down and the primary election, unless given explicit guidance from the governor or state, county or local public health authorities.”
Three Mahoning County libraries are polling places in next Tuesday’s primary election: Boardman, East and Newport branches.
Current schedules of open library hours will remain in effect, with the exception of the Campbell Library Express, which has closed and will remain closed at least until the Campbell schools reopen.
“We continue to evaluate the situation and will update staff and the community if other decisions are made about keeping libraries open,” Fifarek said.
