Youngstown Symphony will Close Season with Jazz Concert

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Guest conductor Dean Buck will lead the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra in its final concert of the season at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at Powers Auditorium.

Titled “A Night for Jazz,” the concert will feature guest vocalist Brianna Thomas. The soul-filled

program will include jazz pieces by Duke Ellington, George Gerswhin, Stephen Sondheim and Cole Porter.

Buck serves as assistant conductor for the Firelands Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Pops Orchestra and Cleveland Opera Theater. Thursday’s performance will be his second of the season with the YSO.

Buck has also recently conducted  performances of “The Nutcracker” for Youngstown’s Ballet Western Reserve and “The Pirates of Penzance” at Baldwin Wallace Conservatory.

Guest vocalist Thomas, of Peoria, Illinois, has performed in venues across the country. Her vocal style bears the influences of artists such as Diana Reeves, Sarah Vaugh and Nancy Wilson.
