Youngstown’s Long-term Economic Progress

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – John Russo, the visiting fellow at Kalmanovitz Center for Working Poor at Georgetown University, describes the decline of Youngstown’s main industries as “incredibly rapid” – caused by a synthesis of deindustrialization, corporate restructuring and global economics that especially affected legacy factory towns across the country. “It greatly impacted cities such as Youngstown and changed the economic fortunes for those living in these communities,” he says.
