YSU Academic Senate OKs Programs for Eastern Gateway Students
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown State University’s Academic Senate on Wednesday unanimously approved the addition of 32 associate degree and certificate programs to facilitate a seamless transition for Eastern Gateway Community College students to continue their education at YSU.
The newly approved programs span various disciplines.
Interim Provost Jennifer Pintar expressed her gratitude to the faculty for their swift action and collaborative spirit in bringing the programs to fruition.
“I am incredibly proud of our faculty for their quick work and dedication to expanding opportunities for EGCC students,” she said. “Their collaborative efforts have been instrumental in making this transition process smoother for our incoming students.”
Chet Cooper, chairman of the Academic Senate, commended the hard work of the faculty and emphasized the significance of the initiative in demonstrating YSU’s commitment to regional student success.
“The dedication shown by our faculty in reviewing and approving these programs exemplifies our faculty’s commitment to ensuring the success and seamless transition of EGCC students into YSU’s academic community,” he said.
YSU already offered 10 programs that correspond to Eastern Gateway programs and did not require approval. They include associate of arts, business administration associate of arts, civil and construction engineering technology, criminal justice, early childhood associate PreK, electrical engineering technology, information technology, mechanical engineering technology, medical laboratory technology and nursing.
The next steps involve the newly approved programs undergoing approval processes with the Ohio Department of Higher Education and the Higher Learning Commission. Despite the pending approval process, Eastern Gateway students can initiate the transfer process by completing the transfer application. They are encouraged to indicate undecided on the application until the programs are in the final stages of approval.
More than 20 additional certificate programs will be reviewed at an upcoming Academic Senate meeting.
