YSU Adds Sports Information and Media Journalism Track
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — A new field of study this fall will coach journalism students at Youngstown State University on sports writing and communication.
The new Sports Information and Media track is designed for students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism who are interested in public and media relations, news, publicity and sports writing, said Adam Earnheardt, chair of the YSU Department of Communication.
“The long-term plan for our department is to build a world-class sports communication program,” he said.
Four years ago, the department started a new Sports Broadcasting track in its Telecommunications Studies program that focuses on sports video production. Sports Information and Media features a blend of journalism, communication, telecommunication, history and kinesiology and sport science classes to prepare leaders in the field of sports messaging and storytelling, Earnheardt said.
“This new track also gives our students the options to venturing down new paths in e-sports media relations, and into other new arenas for virtual competition,” he said.
