YSU All-Alumni Reunion Set for This Weekend
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The two-day YSU All-Alumni Reunion is scheduled for homecoming this weekend, Oct. 5 and 6.
Festivities begin on Friday at 6 p.m. with the downtown spotlight at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor at 151 W. Wood St. The event includes greetings from Kristine Blair, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and remarks on the revitalization of Youngstown from Donna DeBlasio, professor of history. After light refreshments, attendees can visit participating bars and restaurants downtown for special deals as part of the Downtown Waddle.
At 7:30 p.m., the Pipino Performing Arts Series presents Acronym – The Battle of Vienna, at the Deyor Performing Arts Center. Acronym is founded and directed by Kivie Cahn-Lipman, assistant professor of Cello in the Dana School of Music, and has received praise from the New York Times and The New Yorker. On Saturday, the All-Alumni Reunion Gathering will be held in the F55 lot at the corner of Fifth and Lincoln Avenues next to the Beeghly College of Education. Campus tours begin at noon with the reunion tailgate lot opening at 2 p.m. The homecoming parade starts at 4 p.m. with a chance for alumni and friends who participated in last year’s Guinness World Record event to wear their costumes and march in the parade. To participate, costumed Penguins should gather at the parade staging ground at 3:30 p.m. on Rayen Avenue across from Beeghly College of Education. The homecoming football game against Southern Illinois kicks off at 6 p.m.
