YSU Alumnus Awarded Fellowship at Yale University

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Tau Beta Pi has awarded Youngstown State University alumnus Andrew Morgan of Fowler a graduate fellowship to study at Yale University.

Morgan, who graduated from YSU in May with dual degrees in electrical engineering and computer science, plans to pursue a doctorate in robotics. He will receive a $10,000 cash stipend for his advanced study as one of 25 engineering students nationwide chosen for the fellowship from the world’s largest engineering honor society.

Last summer Morgan completed an undergraduate research experience at Auburn University where he discovered his interest in closed-loop robotic systems with computer vision feedback. His long-term goal is to work in academia as a researcher and robotics professor.

As a student at YSU, Morgan was named a Goldwater Scholar and participated in more than a dozen student-led organizations, including YSU’s Student Government, Academic Senate and Honors College. He has published three academic papers and filed a provisional patent.

Tau Beta Pi Fellowships are awarded on the competitive criteria of high scholarship, campus leadership and service, and the promise of future contributions to the engineering profession. All fellows are members of Tau Beta Pi, and they are free to complete their graduate work at the institution of their choice.
