YSU Art Students Visit Master Printers in Scotland

YOUNGSTOWN,  Ohio — Eight Youngstown State University Art majors head to Europe July 1 for a month-long study abroad trip in Glasgow, Scotland, where they will work alongside some of Great Britain’s top artists and master printers in the Glasgow Print Studio.

The trip is the first in a summer study abroad initiative that the Department of Art hopes to conduct every other year to expose student to the art, culture, history and landscape of a foreign land, said Joe D’Uva, associate professor of art, printmaking.

This year’s trip is primarily focused on techniques in printmaking and works on paper.  The Glasgow Print Studio is an internationally-acclaimed center of excellence in fine art printmaking.

“This is priceless interaction and networking with artists in a communal studio setting,” D’Uva said.

The trip also includes visits to Edinburgh, Stirling Castle and Loch Lomond/The Trossach’s National Park.

The program is supported by funds from the Department of Art’s Red Press Collaborative program and the Cliff College of Creative Arts and Communication Summer Faculty Innovation Grant. The trip can be followed on Instagram@ysuprintmaking.

In addition to the six YSU undergraduate students, the trip will include one student from the University of Alabama, a graduate student from the University of Cincinnati, and two YSU alums.
