YSU Athletic Teams Recognized for Academics

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Two more Youngstown State University athletic teams have been recognized for team members’ classroom performance.

The YSU softball team ranked third nationally with a team grade-point average of 3.78 for the 2023-24 academic year on the Easton/NFCA Top 10 Team GPA list, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced.

Earlier this month, the United Soccer Coaches announced that YSU earned the team academic award after posting a 3.55 overall grade-point average for the 2023-24 academic year. 

A total of 405 soccer teams (168 men, 237 women) posted a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2023-24 academic year. 

In July, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association released its annual Academic Top 25, and the Penguins led all 360 Division I programs with a 3.868 GPA during the 2023-24 academic year. 

During the spring semester, the Penguin softball team posted a 3.79 team GPA, and 11 players recorded a 4.0 semester GPA and 22 players posted at least a 3.0 semester GPA. Also, 20 Penguins were named Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete All-Americans.
