YSU Business Students Visit Goodyear, Parker Hannifin, Nestle

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — This spring semester, more than 60 students from the Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University participated in management field trips to Parker Hannifin, Nestlé Professional and Goodyear.

Management field trips give students an understanding of careers in management and how real world business organizations approach multiple management functions, according to a YSU release.

“We are happy that we were able to partner with three large corporations in the Northeast Ohio region,” said Kimberly Pleva, a lecturer in Williamson’s management department. “Each company graciously welcomed us into their facility, and the leadership teams openly provided our students with direct application of management fundamentals. These organizations also provided insightful career advice and opportunities for students to build their professional networks.”

Senior leadership at Parker Hannifin, Ravenna, discussed strategic planning, lean enterprise, employee relations and health and safety. Twelve managers from Nestlé, Solon, gave presentations on career paths, supply chain management, marketing and sales, procurement and human resource management.

During the visit to the Goodyear Tire & Rubber, Akron, students took part in a full tour of the race tire manufacturing plant and innovation center, and met with leadership to discuss management processes in operations, quality, safety and human resources.

“The most rewarding aspect of the field visit was the opportunity to learn how the content in our management classes directly applied to one of the world leaders in engineering technologies, said Karlis Larson, a sophomore finance major.

Another group of students and professors visited the Walmart distribution center in Woodland, Pa., to learn about logistics, information systems and distribution. Some of the participating students are members of the new Student Information and Supply Chain Association, which brings students together who are interested in supply chain management and information systems.
